As your coach, I’ll help you find your way.
Every teacher feels lost sometimes.
As your coach, I'll help you find your way.Why hire an educator coach?
Teaching is one of the most challenging jobs in the world—a roller coaster of joy, stress, and relentless demands. Burnout is common. Having an experienced educator coach in your corner can make a meaningful difference to your mental health and professional success.Even if your school has a mentor program or instructional coach, there’s value in working with someone outside your building. I offer a confidential, consistent space to have meaningful conversations about your teaching practice—free from school politics or evaluation pressure.Who do I work with?
I specialize in working with secondary educators, especially those in their first five years. That said, I’m always happy to connect with teachers at any stage who are looking for support. Why work with me, specifically?
I’m a veteran high school social studies teacher, university professor, and teacher leader. I’ve coached and developed new teachers, guided students of all backgrounds, and led professional learning that’s both practical and reflective.I believe that good teaching is both an art and a craft. I help teachers become more confident, authentic, and connected to their students—while keeping their own well-being in mind.Whether you’re struggling with lesson design, classroom management, student motivation, or just staying motivated yourself, I offer grounded, honest support to help you grow and persist in this incredible (but incredibly tough) profession.Curious if coaching is right for you? Let’s talk. I offer a free 30-minute consultation to help you get started.
What my colleagues say:
Erik understands curriculum. Erik understands students. Erik understands teaching and teachers. And collectively, Erik is one of the most impressively reflective, forward-thinking, responsive, and resourceful educators I have met in my thirty years in the profession. It would be my honor and privilege to work alongside Erik in a classroom, as a teacher educator, and even student. Every time I interact with Erik, I learn something. This is my 30th year teaching and I have worked/supported many teachers over the years. Ironically, as a veteran teacher, I have had the honor of having Erik Johnson offer guidance and support to me more times than I can count and it has been most appreciated. Mr. Erik Johnson ranks highly on my list of talented educational leaders. One of Erik's greatest strengths is his ability to always take into account the social and emotional needs of students AND staff. He led professional development and mentored other teachers on practices that would be efficient for not only students but also staff. He is always open to collaboration and open to hearing new ideas to ensure that students and staff are receiving the best quality education he can provide. Furthermore, Erik is a pleasure to work with both professionally and personally. In our department, we called him “the glue” that kept everyone together because he has a way of making everyone feel welcome and included. From his good morning greetings to his quick responses, Erik Johnson made our social studies department feel like home. What my graduate students say:
Personally, Erik’s commitment to supporting me on my journey to become an educator started on our first day of class, when he exhibited a deep dedication to learning the nuances of my position, desires, and goals. Throughout the quarter, we worked individually to problem-solve, ideate, and craft a trajectory for myself to become the educator I wanted to be. His unwavering support every step of the way was foundational to my success as an educator and is something I carry to my own teaching practice today. What sets Erik apart from the norm is multi-faceted. He is passionate about what he does… the clarity with which his passion is visible in his actions,
effort, and words is even rarer. His approachable demeanor and great communication skills, paired with the aforementioned attributes, motivate others to do their best. He has played a pivotal role in mentoring me and a number of other students that I know personally. He guides us not only pedagogically but also personally, demonstrating a genuine interest in our well-being.Erik is an amazing instructor. He cares about every individual student's success and is more than happy, even eager, to supply students with the tools they need to be successful. He's one of the kindest and most helpful professors I've ever had. I've learned so many things from him I can immediately apply them in my classroom. Every session of this course has been well worth our time, and I think I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate Erik's commitment to teaching and his enduring love for all his students. What my high school students say:
Words cannot express how much of an impact your teaching has had on me.
Throughout my four years of high school, I’ve never enjoyed a class more than yours. Your attitude and reasoning are fair and make the class enjoyable, you’re the type of teacher one can humor with and can take breaks with because you understand every one of us has a life outside of school. I believe you were too kind sometimes but that’s what was so great about you. I truly grew a lot because of you and showed it just not in your class but in other classes and outside my life. I really enjoyed the stories you told us about your pets, brother, and yourself. I enjoyed the lessons about college, prepping for jobs, and projects about random animals. I enjoyed the personal talks and the positive comments on my work as well. Thank you for being such a great teacher and I hope I can still reach out to you throughout my years of college.Out of all the teachers I have had I want to thank you. You have helped me so much this year and have honestly been one of the nicest teachers I've had. I feel like I can go to you when anything is wrong and I've never really felt that with a teacher. I hope to stay in contact with you once I graduate and just be able to catch up from time to time. You have honestly played a big role in helping me succeed in life and I thank you for everything you have done. I hope you know I'm not the only kid who appreciates you, so many of your students always speak highly of you and say you're one of the best teachers ever. You make our class feel more than just a class. You make it feel like an environment where we can just be us and have fun. You make every lesson fun from civics to senior seminar. Both classes are honestly great and you have such a fun, carefree personality which not a lot of teachers have. Thank you for everything you have done to help me get through the year and for always checking up on me.Mr. Johnson’s class has to be one of my favorites. Not only did I learn about Civics, but I also learned a lot about the outside world. I took a lot of life advice from him. Mr. Johnson is very enthusiastic but, at the same time, very serious. I would like to thank this man for being very comprehensive and open-minded. I believe that every single soul needs a Mr. Johnson in their life. Thank you, I appreciate you a lot. Thank you for being such an open-minded person. Keep being you because I will do anything to become you one day. Thank you for those times that you let me step out of class when I needed it.See more reviews on my Google Business Profile and my Facebook!
